Commercial Photo Retouching

Commercial photography not only includes advertising images but also any photo used to market a business, product or service. Commercial photos are used on websites, social media, billboards, point of purchase displays, packaging, and in newspapers, magazines and books.

Photo retouching ensures that commercial images don't have any flaws or blemishes that can detract from the message of those images. Polished images make the product appear more appealing, the service more interesting, or the company more credible. Well-finished images convey a sense of professionalism which helps build trust with the customer.

There is no artificially-intelligent software that can do this type of retouching. This is an example of old-fashioned manual retouching techniques coupled with human intelligence.

Our brains are hardwired to prefer visual information because it’s quicker to process and crucial for our survival. In fact, half of our brain is active for processing vision.

This natural inclination leads people to seek out visual content first, as it provides information with minimal effort. If you’re not leveraging photos effectively, you risk losing the attention of potential customers.

Photo retouching can be used to change the mood of a photo or to style an image to match the look of an organization's upcoming marketing project.

Nearly every photo intended for commercial, business, or professional use can benefit from some level of editing or retouching.

Well-finished images not only reproduce better but also capture more viewer attention. Increased attention translates to greater interest, making potential customers more receptive to your message. In contrast, amateur-looking photos can drive customers away.

Location photography often uses only the existing light. But this can be unpredictable. Retouching can help with the light and elevate the story you're trying to tell.

It wasn't possible to turn off the yellow grow lights and use the normal room lights for the photography. Retouching shows what it would look like without the grow lights which makes the photo easier to understand.

Correcting wide-angle lens distortion is a common retouching task. It's also frequently necessary to even out the exposure across a wide-angle image because of lens vignetting or uneven flash.

Not every photo has the luxury of studio lighting. Photos made in your office, factory or warehouse might use only the existing light. Retouching can improve these photos and give you good, presentable images to help you market your business.

Sometimes a series of photos tells a better story than just a single picture. An eye-catching composite image can make for a unique marketing image.

After the shoot was over, the elliptical company changed its mind and wanted a blue background. Retouching made it possible.

Some photos look okay but sometimes "okay" isn't good enough. Retouching is often used to polish and fine-tune an otherwise okay photo.

One more thing

If a photo absolutely has to fit into a specific layout then it may be possible to bend, twist, push, pull and cajole the photo into that design. In this case, it was decided that a horizontal photo had to magically become a tall vertical with lots of empty blue sky to the top-right.

Commercial photos should be as flawless as possible to effectively sell your product or service, or to convey your story. Flaws are blemishes and distractions that take attention away from your offering. Retouching not only makes the photos better, it also makes your business look better.

Just saying:

Polish your photos, amplify your story.
