Indulge me as I reminisce about a few more photos and aimlessly fill another blog page.
The pictures below are all scanned film images. Each of these portraits, except for the last one, were done in about five minutes because that’s usually all the time a photographer got.
The photo was done with one softbox to the left and Fuji Press 400 film.
Much of what I shoot involves people and often large groups of people. The ongoing pandemic has meant that most of my business has stopped although I expect things to slowly return this month.
So with time on my hands and blog pages to fill, I thought I’d reminisce about a few old photos.
NHL hockey players from various teams used to practice together each August. These casual practices helped the players get in shape before the start of their respective team’s training camps in September. These Toronto-area practices were organized quietly so as not to attract public attention. But if you knew which ice rinks were being used, you could go and watch some top-level NHL players.

The ongoing pandemic has meant that there’s been little work and few purchases. The items listed below were bought before the pandemic shut everything down.
My old Manfrotto ball head wasn’t as smooth as I wanted and it struggled with heavy lenses. Also, my new L-bracket (below) requires an Arca-Swiss head and there’s no easy way to convert a Manfrotto clamp to Arca-Swiss.
The Sirui K-40X was reasonably priced ($240) compared to similar ball heads. It’s smooth, solid and a joy to use.

If you log into your CRA account to apply for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit or the Canada Recovery Benefit, there are a few new things. First, the government wants a short essay describing how the pandemic has ruined your business. There’s also help to plan for a new career. I guess the government assumes your current career is a lost cause because, well, you’re applying for benefits.
I took all six quizzes to find out what new occupation(s) might be a good fit for me.
The results said that I’m innovative, methodical and objective. I’m also picture smart, visual, good at form perception and good at noticing shapes, shadings and lines.
