It was the best of houses, it was the worst of houses, it was the age of beauty, it was the age of squalor, it was the epoch of style, it was the epoch of simplicity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of disrepair . . .
From time to time, I photograph houses for home builders, construction companies and renovation contractors. This often includes doing pictures of a house both before and after the work is done.
As you might imagine, the “after” pictures always look good because the newly renovated house will have a modern design and updated decor. These are the pictures a photographer will happily display on their web site.
You don’t often see “before” pictures and for good reason. Before any work is done, an old house can look dated, worn out and even decrepit. But there are exceptions.
Here are some “before” photos from two houses located one kilometre apart. One of these houses may not look like a “before” but it is.
